What is this piece of pottery used for?

It’s just me asked:

I have a ceramic pottery pot that was hand made. It has a tube that comes up in the middle of the pot (similar to an angel food cake pan) and also a lid. Is this for steaming vegetables in the oven? Or does anyone know what this pot is utilized for?
