Is acrylic paint compatible with ceramics?

I bought a ceramic piece that I want to paint, but I only have acrylics. Are these compatible with ceramics?

    You could paint ceramics with acrylic after firing them, but not before. If you want to paint before you fire, then you need to use several coats of a glaze. This gives ceramic pieces that glossy shine.
