How do ceramic plaque heaters work?

Can anyone explain how a gas ceramic plaque heater works? I am amazed at the amount of heat it puts out. What does the honeycomb design of the ceramic have to do with it? Thanks!

    Radiant heat? The honey comb makes high and low pressure winds that will move air around and suck cold air from the bottom and put out hot air on the top thus moving the heat faster.
