Val asked: I want to buy a ceramic bisque platter for my wedding as a guest book alternative. I want to paint somthing on it first before having the guests sign it. Then I’d like to glaze it so it is smooth and shiny.
My question is which order should I begin with. Do I paint, have them sign, glaze it, then fire it? OR Can I paint, glaze it, have them sign and then fire it?
Yes, the guests would be signing with a ceramic pen, I forgot to mention that. I have seen ‘finished’ platters for sale that come with a ceramic pen for signing, but they are very expensive so I figured I would do it myself. But all the platters I’ve seen for sale already are painted and seem glazed. They all say that after the guest sign, wait 24 hours and put it in the (regular) oven for 30 min on 300 degrees, and that would make the signatures permanent.
