There is a question in one of my ceramics handouts that asks what is known as the “bone” of clay and I can’t find it anywhere. Can someone tell me what the “bone” of the clay is?

I want to make a set of dishes by pushing red and white pieces of clay into old plates to make the plates and like a big salad bowl by doing the same thing. But, I’m scard that they will get stuck in the molds! What can I put on the mold for the clay will come off easily?

And, what would happen if I fired something with vasiline on it?

I just finished firing several pieces, and now I have no idea how to finish them. I don’t want to glaze, because I’ll lose detail. Also, regular acrylics won’t work, because it looks too much like paint and not like true life color. Watercolor is just too transparent and just is a pale stain.

one of my pieces is a realistic hand. so I want to finish it in a way that it looks really real. another one is a shoe, and I want to give it that leather brown look. or just like an ordinary shoe. one of my other one is an angel.

suggestions please!?!
