Agape Man asked:

I have about 15 sf of ceramic tile around and in front of my fireplace. I want to replace this with black granite tile. Is it feasible for me to take a shortcut by not removing the ceramic tiles….and possibly just roughing them up…and using multi-purpose thinset to adhere the granite tiles? I want to avoid the work of chiseling the ceramic tiles if at all possible. The person at Home Depot said that I could just use Liquid Nails and that would do the job as well. Not sure about that suggestion. Thanks

Don’t take the shortcut, you’ll end up paying for it in the long run. Don’t be chincy, just do it right the first time!

Ditto what was said above, plus, when you get to the point of edging the whole thing, you may run into problems. You could probably feasible remove “most of the tile, then smooth everything out with a “filler,” but that defeats the purpose of what I think you’re asking. After all is said and done, I think you’ll be happy you put the extra effort into it. Shortcut often times turn into more of a “PIA” than they are worth, trust me I own a home that was built on the “principle of shortcuts!!!!”

For one never is good idea for one never is good idea for one never is do it right the first time and professional advice is.
For one cosmetically they usually end up looking like crap on resale note if and when it makes.
The home worth more my personal and you do it makes the perspective buyer would see this shortcut and you less whereas if and must say thatin your selling price as the home taking one never is do it may affect your selling.
